Quality Control from Breed-to-Shelf
The key to putting the “natural” in Van Aarde Natural Science? It starts from the ground up.
Our company was awarded one of the first licenses to grow hemp and produce CBD products in the state of Massachusetts. We partner with local family farms by providing them with proprietary hemp seeds that we've had certified by the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture. This farming partnership program is led by our Director of Cultivation and Plant Sciences Josh Turner, MSc. Josh holds a Bachelors Degree in Plant Science and a Masters Degree in Biology. He and his wife Shanda lead the grow team responsible for breeding 100% of the seeds that we provide to our farming partners. All our hemp strains contain high levels of CBD and other non-psychoactive cannabinoids.
At Van Aarde, we use cold-wash ethanol extraction to naturally pull all the active compounds from the hemp plant. We then distill the extract in our onsite lab to create a pure full spectrum hemp extract oil. This allows for optimal retention of terpenes and other sensitive plant compounds beneficial to our formulations. We use this full spectrum hemp extract in all our products. By using hemp extract that includes a range of cannabinoids you enjoy a synergistic effect achieved by all the active compounds of the plant working together.
Van Aarde products are formulated by our co-founder Sarah McLaughlin, who is a Certified Sports Dietitian and Nutritionist. We produce all our Hemp Extract Oils and Topical products in small batches at our manufacturing facility located in Northampton, MA. In addition to rigorous internal testing during the cultivation and processing of our hemp, we send every batch of product we create to a third party independent lab for a final test. This verifies you’re receiving accurate CBD potency and helps alleviate any concerns about levels of THC, pesticides, heavy metals, and mycotoxins.
The Healing Power of Plants
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a compound that is found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC, the psychoactive compound also found in the cannabis plant, CBD is non-intoxicating. Van Aarde Natural Science products use hemp derived CBD. The definition of hemp is a cannabis plant that contains 0.3% THC or less. The hemp we grow contains naturally occurring CBD and numerous other beneficial non-psychoactive phytocannabinoids.
